Homework - Due 2.16.12


1.  Use the compass rose to determine the direction a camel caravan would travel to get to the Atlas Mountains
2. Identify one oasis where the caravan might stop on this journey. Use the scale to estimate its distance from Lake
3. Identify two mountain peaks that the caravan could use as landmarks on this journey. List each the elevation of each peak. Estimate the longitude and latitude of each peak.
4. Draw a route on the map for the caravan from Lake Chad to the Atlas Mountains. Include a stop at the oasis. Decide how you will deal with ergs, or regions of large sand dunes. Estimate the distance of your route in miles.
5. Camels travel about 25 miles a day. Estimate how long this journey will take. Include at least one day of rest at an oasis in your estimate.

3. Create a color coded key for your map
4. Annotations: List adaptations made in each location
5. Create a thesis statement that answers: How do people survive in the Sahara region?
